Album Review

Goofy and slightly annoying collection of holiday tunes featuring the garden-based cast of loony characters. Only roughly half of the 26 tracks on this album include actual music. The rest is the cast of characters talking with such racket to inspire the listener to skip over to the next track featuring music. However, one gets the fun, frenetic feel they can expect from the popular religious-themed children's video series. Nevertheless, this album is recommended for the video series' fans only. ~ Dacia A. Lots of laughs to start the Season

This is a great achievement in true Veggie form. There are peaceful carols to the Christ child as well as more upbeat traditional holiday fare. The album is rewarding to long-time Veggie fans as more obscure characters make an appearance. Palmy gives us a Calypso Christmas Carol, and the entire Grape family joins Pa with their rickity car in tow. All of the songs from the 1998 Pax special "A Very Veggie Christmas" are here, including the songs from "The Toy That Saved Christmas." I personally have a deep appreciation for "The 8 Polish Foods of Christmas," sung to the tune of "12 Days of Christmas," since I too come from Chicago and have Polish roots like Larry (Mike Nawrocki). Overall this album is lots of fun and great for the playroom or car.

Enjoyable, to say the least!

My family bought this CD in 1999, when it was relatively new, and it has become a large part of my Christmas every year. If I don't listen to this at least 20 times before Christmas, and a few times after Christmas, my Christmas just isn't complete!! Bob and Larry provide great humor, while still bringing the message that the season is for celebrating the birth of Jesus. If you haven't listened to the 8 Polish Foods of Christmas, you're truly missing out!!

A Favorite!

I bought this CD last year in November (2004) for a road trip to entertain my two boys. We played it, and played it, and played it... until about March... The CD was so worn that this year I am having to download it from iTunes to keep peace in the Rice household. It is wacky and funny yet reverent in a Veggie Tale way. A good bit of talking but enough pop culture references to get a chuckle out of a jaded adult mind. "Oh Santa" is a great tour de 'farce' featuring the slamming of a door in a tax collector's face, "Go Tell It On The Mountain" features the unlikely instrumentation of a car backfiring, and "Away In A Manger" is a beautiful rendition to close out the album.
