iTunes Review
Better known as one half of the Wreckers, Jessica Harp’s debut solo album may also be her final one. Following the release of A Woman Needs, the Nashville tunesmith announced her choice to eschew performing for songwriting, and from the get-go of the instantly likeable opening title track, it’s obvious that songwriting is Harp’s strength. It’s not that she can’t sing — her crystalline voice is so awesome that at times she sounds like a long lost Dixie Chick. But her knack for narratives, razor-barbed melodies, and soaring upbeat affirmations all combine magically to make for the kinds of unforgettable tunes gracing A Woman Needs. “Boy Like Me” leans on clever wordplay and a flirty tomboy tone that saunters around Americana rock with spirited harmonies. And speaking of harmonies, Vince Gill lends his to “Homemade Love,” a sweet little sing-along number. If twangy ballads are your thing, “Letting Go” is one powerhouse of a serenade that celebrates the emotional strength that can only be acquired from moving on. Song for song, A Woman Needs is a strong album.

FINALLY
After almost two years of The Wreckers fans waiting for Jessica Harp's album, it's FINALLY HERE! Although, it is quite bittersweet after she stated this is her last album--she has retired from becoming a performing artist.
Anyway, this album is great...I am soo excited that it's here!!
This has been a long time coming.
It feels like I've been waiting a lifetime for this album, though in actuality, it's only been about seven years. But, that's still quite a while in my book. And, now, after finally seeing this album released and getting to hear the full studio versions of songs that I fell in love with for the first time over a year ago(when the album was finished and Jess began playing them live), I can honestly say it was worth the wait.
A Woman Needs is one of the best albums I've heard in quite a while, country or otherwise. Jessica once more proves herself as not just a singer, but a versatile songwriter as well(she wrote or co-wrote almost everything on the album). AWN offers a collection of songs that range from tearjerkers(Letting Go, Lonely Anywhere, & Someone Else's Life) to the playfully upbeat(Boy Like Me, Breakup Song, Good Enough For Me), the inspirational(A Woman Needs, More To This Than You) to the personal(Love Letter). Other, equally amazing tracks, Homemade Love and Follow That Train seem a bit harder to catagorize, but will definitely have you hitting 'Repeat'. In fact, Homemade Love is my song of the day and a personal favorite of all Jessica's work. And yes, that's Vince Gill singing the track with her.
Basically, what I'm saying is that if you enjoy country music, catchy tunes, and/or heartfelt lyrics, buy this album. I promise it's worth more than the price.
Heartfelt lyrics, sung with passion and beauty
With respect to Jessica's decision to focus on her writing in the future: I've almost always felt that no one can interpret a song as well as its composer and I won't be surprised if she discovers this down the road. One thing is certain, with this release she has certainly set the bar high for others who might try. This is a beautiful record!
