iTunes Review

With their third studio album (and first for Roadrunner Records), Alter Bridge continues to build on the kind of innovative metal that makes it really difficult to believe that these guys are actually Creed with a different singer. The more versatile vocals of Myles Kennedy are highlighted from first cut “Slip Into the Void,” which somehow makes a Fender Rhodes jazz piano sound menacing as Kennedy’s gentle inflections are nearly whispered before exploding into a high, maniacal register that’s almost identical to those of Wolfmother’s Andrew Stockdale. And before the song ends, Kennedy slips into one of those nasal-toned post-grunge vocal styles synonymous with the late Layne Staley of Alice In Chains. The band’s “Isolation” is loaded with barbed hooks and blistering guitar riffs that throw punches over a sternum-rattling rhythm section. “Ghost of Days Gone By” downshifts to play like the band stole the song from Kid Rock’s Nashville studio.

One of the most anticipated albums... doesn't disappoint!

Incredible. Every song from beginning to end is a pleasure to listen to... not just the first time, or the first 10 times. I can't remember being this satisfied with a full album purchase in some time, possibly ever. This is HIGHLY recommended for not only Alter Bridge fans, but rock fans period. Their writing style keeps you guessing from chord to chord, and rewarding you at every turn... Just listen to "Slip to the Void" on a loud stereo, and you'll be drawing in from there on out.

Would have been better if...

It would be a better record if the lyrics weren't full of overused cliches. How many times does he say "i'm falling" and "find my way?" C'mon now, the lyrics for the most part are beat. The lyrics on One Day Remains were far better than these, and the Mayfield 4 lyrics are good too... So why these played out lyrics? I know what the album is about, but Myles could have come up with creative lyrics to express his thoughts. The music is good, but after all the Creed and AB albums, it seems Mark is trapped in a box... you don't need a huge chorus and distortion in every song, its boring. I'd like to see either AB or Creed or BOTH write some songs that aren't hard rock or anthemic, because after 7 albums, its getting dull.

And WHY does Mark/Myles have to slide into every chorus???

Album of the year

This album is great Wonderful Life is the best song on the album

Biography

Formed: January, 2004 in Orlando, FL

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Alter Bridge resurrected the music-making portion of Creed. After that band's 2004 dissolution, guitarist Mark Tremonti and drummer Scott Phillips tapped ousted bassist Brian Marshall for the new project. Ex-Mayfield Four frontman Myles Kennedy was soon on board as well, and Alter Bridge made their Wind-Up debut in August 2004 with One Day Remains. Written largely by Tremonti, the record tried to lean more toward a hard rock/metal sound than the post-grunge grandstanding of his previous group. After...
