Album Review

Abigail II: The Revenge, King Diamond's tenth full-length solo album and sequel to his 1987 classic, Abigail, unfortunately doesn't recapture much of the magic of the original, but instead continues the consistent but less inspired professionalism of most of his latter-day work. What separates King Diamond's great records from the mediocre ones is not storylines, but songs; his best have memorable melodies, detailed atmospheres, and imagination (listen to the first four or five records for evidence of this). Abigail II naturally has all the sonic hallmarks of classic King Diamond and, of course, the music is beautifully executed. It's just not as memorable as the old stuff, and is nearly indistinguishable from its predecessors. Still, hardcore fans won't be disappointed. Also includes some cringe-inducing dialogue and "acting."

Utter Crap!

What happened, King? You have successfully failed with your last 3 or 4 albums. It is time to return to form and put out something worth listening to. Stop speaking your vocals and sing again. I think you are too worried about the story and not enough about the song. Want to tell a story? Write a book. Want to regain your fans? Write a song...

LISTEN.

If you're gonna give it one star, at least do so after listening to the damn record. And I don't mean listening to it once and dismissing it. If you know what's what, this is five-star all the way. Abigail II is an underrated classic, and musically this is up there with King's all time best stuff. From "the Storm" to "Mommy," you're treated to all sorts of hilarious plot twists and one of KD's best, most diverse array of vocals ever. Not to mention the music...getting Mike Wead into the band and Hal Patino back in the fold worked wonders that's continued since then on Puppet Master and Give Me Your Soul.

very good

Kind D is awsome as a vocalist, lyrisist, and story teller this is a very nice sequil to the first Abigail Album and i recomend both of them together. Like most other King albums you should buy the whole album and listen to it from start to finish because if you dont you wont get the story and the album wont make sence. (very good)

Widely regarded as the finest vocalist in all of metal (who possesses a multi-octave range), theatrical rocker King Diamond first rose to prominence as a member of Mercyful Fate before launching a solo career on his own. Born Kim Bendix Petersen in Denmark on June 14, 1956, the future King Diamond was originally drawn to theatrically based hard rock due to such trailblazers as Alice Cooper, and soon began fronting local bands in the '70s, including a punk metal outfit called the Brats.
