iTunes Review

France’s Plastiscines' follow-up to LP1 (their debut) shows the female quartet stretching out of their comfort zone (simple, punchy garage rock influenced by a variety of bands and decades), and exerting a little more muscle, along with more originality. There’s a confident playfulness at work here, reminiscent of sassy schoolgirls on the playground who know they’re the queen bees. The purring threat of the hook-heavy “I Could Rob You” is laughable, coming from these wispy femmes, but the breathy refrain, “love is gone/you can’t have it back,” barbed with staccato guitar and drums, make clear their fiendish plot. “Camera” is a powerhouse track, its tightly wound guitars and heaving tom drums bulldozing the French-sung lyrics along with force. (Their French language power pop sounds great on “Pas Avec Toi,” too.) Delivering the chorus, “B-I-T-C-H, I’m a bitch,” with full-on glee and handclaps, guitars pulsing and clanging with something resembling menace, Plastiscines are clearly having fun while they carve themselves a secure nitch in the indie-rock pantheon. Tres bonne!

Customer Reviews

Finally!

Not only are these girls adorable and super nice, but their music never fails to impress. The full-length is chock full of peppy, fun songs you can totally dance around with your friends to. I LOVE IT! People need to stop being so up-tight about music. Not every album has to be a genius indie rock symphony of heartbreak. Sometimes, music can just be FUN. Lighten up guys, give the album a chance, and feel what it's like to smile again.

A Statement???

An anti-statement to the current French music scene. As Louise Basilien stated:"the generation before us could not learn about rock 'n' roll because the stores here were rubbish". This will help! Liken Pasen Avec Toi, You're No Good, Time to Leave, & B**tch.

Candy Punk Dance Party

It's hard not to love this album, because when you listen to it, you have to dance. It got me through my mid-day slump of total boredom and it will get me through a groggy morning, too. Vive Les Filles in this super fun band!

Biography

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '00s

The Plastiscines, a garage rock revival group composed entirely of French females, formed in 2004 around teenage friends Katty Besnard (guitar/vocals), Marine Neuilly (guitar), Louise Basilien (bass guitar), and Zazie Tavitian (drums). Taking their name from a line in the Beatles' classic "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" ("plasticine porters with looking glass ties"), the girls began carving out a swaggering, guitar-heavy sound while citing the Kinks, the White Stripes, the Strokes, Blondie, and the...
