Album Review

Between November 1997 and November 1998, the Bradley Nowell estate, MCA, and the surviving members of Sublime released no less than three albums of outtakes, rarities, and live tracks, culminating with Acoustic: Bradley Nowell & Friends. At first glance, this appears to be the least interesting of the three albums, since it doesn't have outtakes like Second Hand Smoke or document the band in its live prime, like Stand by Your Van. Strangely enough, that's the reason why it's the most engaging of any of the posthumous Sublime releases. Throughout all these recordings, many of which are decidedly lo-fi, Nowell and a variety of supporting musicians run through Sublime favorites, toss-offs, and covers. It's relaxed, funny, and, funnily enough, quite moving, because it captures a human, touching side of Nowell that only surfaced in glimpses on Sublime's official albums. Of course, this is something that will be of interest primarily to hardcore fans, not fellow travelers who only owned Sublime, but that's the reason why Acoustic is the best of all the Sublime records released after Nowell's death.

Epic, just Epic

This one those c.d.'s I can put in and listen all the way through Without hitting one crappy song. Its the kind of cd you can through in when you are feeling down and it will bring you back up (its almost spiritual). This cd has: great lyrics, it's spiritual, it's funney (quips like Bradley saying, "I'm stoned, I feel like watching Star Trek and eating Pizza."- that's Stellar) it's raw, it's Bradley Nowell unplugged. Brad brings you up, then, he lets you down, then brings you right back up, again.

Bradley with his purely amazin voice What more could you ask for?

Amazing. This album is a great album, its live and raw. Especially pool shark. The boys of Sublime continued album after album , all of them are amazing and groundbreaking. R.I.P Bradley J. Nowell ~1968-1996~

Brad at his best!!

Passion, its what fuels this cd. you get insight into the fallen rockers life from his lyrics, and his side conversations. Thanks Brad and Bud for sharin with the rest of us. SOme of the best vocals and acoustic i've ever heard. Its peerfect for when you just want to chill out and crank up the song. Bradley may have been taken from us by a terrible addiction, but he left with us his passion for music and his inspiration for life.

Formed in 1988 as a garage punk band, Sublime rose to fame in the mid-'90s on the back of the California punk explosion engendered by Green Day and the Offspring, though Sublime boosted their punk influences with heavy elements of reggae and ska.
