Megaman meets Rock Opera
The Protomen originally formed back in 1993 as a way to pass the time and complete their college recording assignments. They also never break character when giving reviews and consist of a large number of "rebels" working together to try and overthrow the tyrannical Dr. Wily.
Although only some of the most die hard fans will notice upon first listening to the album, that the Protomen are actually retelling their own version of the popular "Megaman" series. However, they go one step further by literally changing almost all but the core elements of the story and turn it into a rock opera. For those interested think Sweeney Todd (2007) meets the Orwellian distopia of the novel "1984". Arguably it goes back even further to Fritz Lang's 1927 film "Metropolis" (the Protomen regularly showcase segments of the movie during their live shows).
The history here is rich. And the dramatic story of failed revolution, subtle enslavement of humanity and tales of love only add to the mood. But please, be aware that of the Protomen's constant shift of musical style as each character tells their story can sometimes be unnerving to those unaware of the album being an Opera. In other words, interpret the songs and the singers as a story being put together chapter by chapter through every track. Listening to the album out of order will not appease your ears by any means and will only lead to confusion.
If the Protomen have accomplished anything, they have shown that even in this day and of super recording studios and shrinking wells of originality that you can still make your own sound and be sure of people out there who will appreciate it.

I listened to samples then bought the album not knowing anything about them. I havn't even finished listening to the whole album and all I can say is this is unbelievably creative, inspired and emotionally driven music. Inspirational to say the least.
