in a class of its own...an imeasurably great class!

I can't say enough good things about this record. The best, most inventive guitar work in the whole world. i got this at an owls show, another band with this guitarist, and it has been my favorite instrumental album since. yes, better than the soundtrack to "sense and sensibility!" anyway, even if this type of music isn't for you (which really only gets a bad name because of the typical singing), you should be able to enjoy this anyway. i think the guitarists name is victor villareal...i read it on wikipedia. good site. anyway, i wish he would put out a lot more stuff as i've hunted everything down (owls, joan of arc, noyes) and it's all more or less amazing. amen. and if you can help it at all, please stop torturing animals!

Very accessible math-rock

The first track made me question why this was recommended to me, but once "It's All About Right Then" kicked in it all made sense. 'Ghosts and Vodka' shapes the highly technical, math-rock stylings of 'Don Caballero' into something much more accessible without dimishing the level of difficulty or sounding hollow. Lots of layered guitars and technical riffs mixed with precise drumming. Rinse, lather, repeat. Stylistically they do nothing amazingly original, but they do what they do very well. The acoustic interludes will seem out of place to anyone who isn't paying attention, but the underlying composition of those pieces are no different than the full on math-rockers.
