Grab A Passport Between Songs

THIS CD IS FOR YOU IF YOU LIKE: Shinjuku Zulu, Buddha Bar, Massive Attack, Groove Armada, Air, the Cafe Del Mar or Buddha Bar series. Mix of chillout lounge and uptempo dance tracks. This release takes you on a trip--emotionally and sonically. It starts of with a dance track but is followed by a percussive tribal chant song; a track or two later it slows down for "Yedayed" a mysterious but uplifting downtempo number, and then to "Mrs. Major Tom", a heartbreaking balladYou might need a passport when listening to this release (and that's a good thing.) Standout tracks: "Mrs. Major Tom" -Singer/songwriter style. Conitnues the story of the character from David Bowie's "Ground Control" song. (For fans of Sarah McLachlan, Elisabeth Fraser/Cocteau Twins) "Allelujah" - like Groove Armada doing dancehall, but with a singer from the 17th century. (For fans of Lisa Gerrard/"Gladiator" soundtrack, Enigma, Delirium) "Box the Gnat" -Timbaland meets Loretta Lynne. Or the Chemical Bros. vs. the "O Brother" soundtrack. (For fans of Four Tet, Sufjan Stevens, folktronica.) "Eyeah!" -chants on top of warm beats. Ecstatic, otherworldy. (For fans of hypnotic dance tracks.) *NOTE: See also the CD "Sonorous Susurrus" also by K.I.A.; this artist also has two releases under the name Shinjuku Zulu, entitled "Shinjuku Zulu", and "Various Chimeras".

Singer/songwriter and Acapella Dance

Mrs. Major Tom is the saddest song ever. Haunting and beautiful singer/songwriter style. Box the Gnat is like country done by electronic producers. Almighty Beat mixes soul and breaks, and Operafrica mixes opera and zulu chants, and Allelujah mixes dancehall dub reggae and Latin choir chants. Losing My Mind is a cut-up dance groove, and so is Bedouin Engine (but it's acapella!). Smart music for pop people. (Pop music for smart people!)

Diamond in the rough

Excellent running album. After listening, I feel cleanly content. Also, this album seems to be a bit hard to find.

The Canadian producer, born Kirby Andersen, began in Calgary, where he graduated in 1988 from the city's university with a degree in English literature. From there he followed his urge to travel and moved to Tokyo, where he found substatial inspiration in Japanese culture and its wonderful ironies — ancient temples amid a forward-looking...
