New Generation Afrobeat Follows Fela!
While he was alive, the inventor of Afrobeat, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti dominated the style with his charisma, power and musicianship. Since his death, other musicians have risen to carry the Afrobeat tradition. This collection brings together some of the best examples of post-Fela Afrobeat, including tracks by former members of Fela's band (master drummer Tony Allen, keyboardist Dele Sosimi, baritone sax player Baba Ani), plus excellent American disciples such as Groove Collective, Antibalas and Daktaris and even a track by Fela's son Femi (the quasi hit Beng Beng Beng). It is a highly enjoyable tour of the varied directions of contemporary Afrobeat.
