iTunes Review

Seattle’s Curtains For You is a highly acclaimed quintet whose third album continues their streak of joyous pop music. The romping piano bounce of “What Good Am I To You Now?” takes the spirited power of Ben Folds Five and turns it into a moody mix of British and domestic influences. Songs such as “The Great War,” “The Day I Stole Your Car” and “In the Last Of Your Light” evoke comparisons to Harry Nilsson, ELO, Emitt Rhodes and other ‘70s pop-rock practitioners. “The Wasteland” is a beautifully baroque piece with layered vocals and a band sound that is far beyond that of a five-piece. Credit guitarist and singer Matthew Gervais and keyboardist and singer Peter Fedofsky for writing these captivating miniature anthems. “Bronx Zoo Hobo” throws up a country-pop influence with close-knit harmonies and a melody that explodes beyond all expectations. “Photographic Memory” begins at the piano before enjoying a full orchestral blow out. They’re an ambitious band with the talent to pull it off.

AMMMMAZZZZING!!!

I just got this CD from my sister and it is sooooo good. I am a little obsessed with this band now. The way Dave plays the drums in Bronx Zoo Hobo is a thing of beauty and not to mention the awesomeness of Matts singing in What Good Am I To You Now. This whole album is a gem and I can't wait to see what they do next!!!!

They keep getting better and better!

I have had this album for 6 months now and it just never gets old! Every song on this album has been a favorite, but especially The Great War, Bronx Zoo Hobo, The Day I Stole Your Car and Open Your Eyes. Scratch that. Every. Last. Song. The production on this album is a thing of beauty, every element perfectly balanced against the others. I love the beautiful piano intros on The Day I Stole Your Car and In the Last of Your Light, and the mixed piano/guitar into to The Great War can run through my head all day every day for the rest of my life and I'll be happy. Everything about that song makes me happy. The drums are spectacular. The vocals are beautifully subdued. Seriously, just buy this album. It will not disappoint. On the surface it is catchy and fun, and beyond that it is truly heartbreaking, beautiful and universal.

Years Active:

Seattle-based five-piece rock band Curtains for You rely strongly on retro influences heard in their Beach Boys-esque melodies, if not immediately apparent in their more broodingly indie lyrics. The group is comprised of Matthew Gervais (guitar and lead vocals), Mikey Gervais (guitar, sax and vocals), Nick Holman (bass, euphonium, and vocals), Peter Fedofsky (piano and vocals), and Dave Lawrence (drums), with writing duties split evenly between Matthew Gervais and Fedofsky. Among their many influences...
