Resonates in the heart
Aide Memoire is, I feel, a more mature artist really finding what moves him to do what he does. year after year, playing gigs, getting music out there, suffering, exploring, embracing and just letting go. From the very first notes of the prolouge to the entrancing playout of 'There's a Hope', I really feel that there is magic put into this creation. Even the packaging, with the kind love to its supporters, to the slick inside booklet...it all just feels right. 'I Like The Way You Sound' I feel forces unexpected emotion from the listener. I had to listen to it again to understand how much it really resonates with me at this time in my life and it makes me just...feel. 'A Punch' forces your leg to move the beat with you and it sits right in your gut. 'When Does The Pain Stop' makes my heart ache, I can feel the emotion in hisvoice. Each song has its own story of discovery that it just makes me want to keep listening past the tenth track. The Veeries ability to profess emotion through their ability to muscially tell a story with Val is seamless and poetic. It feels as if this album is a love letter to music and the journey that has taken them all here.
Being a long time Val Emmich fan may have me biased, but I can honestly say I truly believe this is the most powerful, meanigful and heartfelt music he has put out to date.
