Album Review
After the disastrous full-band heavy metal project of Sex & Religion, Steve Vai returned to recording solo with Alien Love Secrets. It's a moodier, more atmospheric collection than his masterpiece, Passion and Warfare, which makes it slightly revelatory. With the new sonic textures, the guitarist again demonstrates his fluid technique, which manages to never become completely mechanical.

Absolutely Amazing
Steve Vai, possibly the best player ever to play, the Paganini of guitar, does it again, this album is incredible! Not a weak moment to speak of. Tender Surrender is one of his very best songs, and the solo is incredible, techniquely astounding and charged with emotion. I saw him play that song live not to long ago, and it just about took my face right off. If you have any respect for guitarists, buy this cd!
Near Perfect
Wow.....Steve Vai has proved his amazingness yet again. This album is short, but it is definitely wurth it. 1. Bad Horsie 5/5-Awesome heavy metal. This song seriously gets your blood pumping. Nice, thrashy riff. 2. Juice 4/5-Weird title, but still a good song. Very fast paced. 3. Die to Live 4/5-Although the title doesn't make sense, this song has a good riff. 4. The Boy From Seattle 4/5-Very unique; unlike anything I've ever heard. Kinda jazzy. 5. Ya-Yo Gakk 3/5-Good guitar, HECKA (For clarificatiton, I'm not from Sacramento) annyoing vocals. 6. Kill the Guy With the Ball/The God Eaters 4/5-Weird, but cool. Opening "vocals" are beyond cool. Good futbol song. 7. Tender Surrender 3/5-Overrated. It's ok, but a little too long.
The Heavy Stuff.
This album is dark, heavy, shredding rock. All instrumentals here unlike the other frequently vocal music that Steve did in the 90s. Bad Horsie is one of his craziest wah/whammy/shred live showpieces, and Ya-Yo Gakk displays his sense of humor by repeatedly sampling his son's baby talk in a way that is surprisingly musical.
