Creepy and wonderful!

I remember this as the only movie that truly scared me as a kid. To the point of not sleeping at night! Guess I shouldn't have watched it when I was told not to! But part of what made Aliens so scary, creepy, and great was James Horner's haunting score. It just keeps you on the edge of your seat making you feel like something is quietly sneaking up behind you. Chilling! I will say that in this score, as in many of Horner's pieces, I hear the occasional repeat of a small series of notes from another piece of his. As another reviewer noted on this score, a few small repeats of notes from Star Trek can be heard in Aliens. But they are very few and far between. Horner also has a tendancy to be somewhat uncreative in using different instruments from time to time. Many of his themes across the board have a similar overall sound. But to that, everything he does still maintains it's uniqueness and is masterful. I can honestly say he is one of my favorite movie composers of all time. If you're looking of a good suspenseful score, this is what you're looking for. Listen to it in the dark for full effect!

Brilliant - Must have for Aliens and Movie theme fans!!!!

This soundtrack is so amazing that you feel like you're watching the movie when you listen to it. The score is the heart and soul of the movie - without it the movie simply would not have been so suspenseful or terrifying.

BEST. SCORE. EVER. PERIOD.

I've collected movie scores all my life. Don't listen to anything but. I work with soundtracks everyday (The Soundtrack Channel - check out the podcasts). I am a filmmaker - I've heard EVERYTHING. And still - even STILL - "Aliens" has never been beaten. Sure, every once in a while I have a new "favorite" that I put on repeat for days, but eventually I always get tired of them. Not so with "Aliens." I always find myself coming back to it. And James Horner practically threw it together to meet Cameron's crazy deadline for the film! Amazing work.
