iTunes Review
While reggae has always been fundamental to Michael Franti’s musical identity, none of his albums have embraced Jamaican styles to the degree of All Rebel Rockers. Produced by Sly & Robbie and recorded almost entirely on location in Kingston, Franti’s sixth studio effort is more than an American pop album costumed in red, gold and green. All Rebel Rockers incorporates the sonic atmospheres and attitudes of dub and Dancehall. “Rude Boys Back In Town,” “A Little Bit of Riddim,” and “Soundsystem” have the bottom-heavy impact of deep dub, but underneath the surface are references to disco, early rap, and ska. The hybridization technique puts Franti in the company of the Clash, who came up with a similar sound in the early ‘80s. Meanwhile, “High Low,” “I Got Love For You,” and “All I Want Is You” exude the sexual chemistry of a late night club packed shoulder-to-shoulder. All experimentation aside, there is no reason why “Hey World (Remote Control Version)” and “Say Hey (I Love You)” shouldn’t be every bit as big as the Black Eyed Peas.

Franti Doin' it RIGHT!
This is hands down my favorite Franti album as a whole. Every song is a perfect fit for the next. Has the ballads, the reggae, the hip-hop...all with a social conscience behind it. Franti writes music that is a blast to put your groove on but also makes you think about the state of the world today.
Where were you before "Say Hey (I Love You)?
I find it amusing that everybody is gushing over Michael Franti like he just came out. He has been making albums for years. This album is actually about a year old. It It just goes to show that when a song(Say Hey) hits mainstream everyone thinks they have to jump on the bandwagon. In the song "Life in the City" he sings, "When radio plays the same ten songs, set you're clock by which one's on." The way everyone became a Michael Franti "fan" after one song hit the airwaves goes to show that most of you will listen to anything as long as it's popular. Michael Franti and Spearhead are a very political band. If you want to hear a really good song by them, listen to "Light Up Your Lighter" off of the Yell Fire album or "A Little Bit of RIddim" from this album. These songs really explain the views of Michael Franti and Spearhead and what their music is about!
Great Album!
Michael Franti keeps turning out fantastic music. This album was actually released last year and I bought it from another site, but it is definitely worth the cost of download. Socially conscious music that can move your heart and mind, and often makes you want to jump up and move your feet as well!
