Amazing!
They put on one of the best live shows I've ever seen. This is a great album as well. Highly recommended!
Larry and his Flask is the best live band ever.
I've seen them live twice now and they are just amazing. What other band has a stand up bass player that will come into the audience and have everyone crouch down around him? They have so much energy and they sound so much better live, which is quite a feat. Buy this album and then try and catch them on tour because it will be the best concert of your life.
Quality folk-punk
It doesn't happen often. Folk itself is an entertaining genre, but often when bands try to incorporate rock-elements into it, they fail miserably. Mumford and Sons did it decently, but Larry and His Flask have created a new beast altogether. The vocal harmonies and instrumentation are straight from the folk-tradition they closely resemble, but the energy and some of the compositional techniques they use are reminiscent of punk-rock, although speaking from a compositional point of view I've never heard a punk band that is this technical with their writing.
The music is dense, but very good. I'm glad I saw these guys live, I'm glad I bought their CD, and I look forward to hearing more from them.
