This is NOT Mantovani

All of the albums listed that have been released post-2000 are recreations of Mantovani -- not the maestro himself. These are not the original tunes as conducted by Mantovani. They make a good stab at it, but no cigar.

MANTOVANI? ...... well, maybe!

I kind of blew right by this Mantovani collection because I have a most of these selections already in my iTunes library which I have downloaded from my own Mantovani record collection. I assumed that most of the selections offered were conducted by Mantovani himself, except for the obvious ones which only came along after his death. After reading Scorpio's review I took some time to review the song samples and have concluded that probably most of them are not Mantovani conducted, even some the older ones. It's impossible to tell for sure with the small samples provided, but I believe that some of the selections included are authentic Mantovani. At any rate, with that said, the songs provided are true to the "Mantovani sound" for the most part, in some cases being very difficult to tell from the originals, even when I know for sure they are not the original recordings. All in all, it is a nice selection of easy listening music with "Mantovani like" sound. I wish that the producers of the current Mantovani albums would tell us who is actually conducting the "Mantovani Orchestra" on each selection. I think this collection should be rated at about 3-1/2 stars so I'll give it a 4 and combined with Scopio's 3 that should come out to about where I feel the rating should be,

Like my Listening Easy

I I didn't already own most of this album I would have bought it. I love this music, it soothes the raging beast. I have bought my 88 year old father an ipod and he only wants Mantovani on it. We particularly love the Stephen Foster Suite and Wyoming, songs you just cannot hear anymore. As to whether or not they are original Mantovani, in my humble opinion they stand head and shoulders above most orchestral music available of this genre .

Conductor, composer, violinist, and pianist Mantovani was one of the most popular and prolific easy listening artists of all time. His trademark "cascading strings" (or "tumbling strings") effect gave him an instantly recognizable sound, and his heavy reliance on the string section in general helped map out the blueprint for much of the light orchestral music that followed in his wake. His repertoire did feature original compositions, but was built chiefly on lush adaptations of familiar melodies:...
