Not the Our Lady Peace I knew
This new Our Lady Peace is nothing like the original band; their style is completely different from that which originally made them a hit among grunge/punk canadian teens. Since Gravity was released, under the influence of Bob Rock, the band has taken a terrible detour into the land of pop/mainstream in an attempt to draw on a larger audience. Despite their efforts, they have achieved very limited success in this area, while still managing to throw their roots under the bus. This new single belongs on Gravity, and again is lacking the spirit and edge that made previous albums (Spiritual Machines) unique and brilliant. Far too many bands succumb to the draw of Pop/Mainstream and change their style to gain a part of this market. Unfortunately, it seems Our Lady Peace is too far gone at this point, and will never return to their roots. Raine's voice is about the only thing that still remains from what I used to call Our Lady Peace. Everything else has been lost along the way.
Fantastic opener
The introduction to Our Lady Peace's seventh studio album is absolutely stunning. Fast-paced and heartfelt, All You Did Was Save My Life is the perfect lead single. While newer fans may complain about the shift to a more radio friendly sound, the band's passion cannot be questioned. Considering some four years have passed since their last album, a song such as this one is perfectly chosen. Burn Burn promises deeper cuts that will undoubtedly cater to fans of 'pre-Gravity' OLP. Check out a song called Monkey Brains on the bands website. Can't wait for this release!
ehhhh
I guess this is what to expect from OLP these days, more songs that everyone can sing along to and less focus on artistic expression, its kind of sad.
