Astonishing recording of the highest calibre
Three tracks in particular make this album well worth the investment. The first is the recording of the little known piece by Sheremetiev (Now Ye Heavenly Powers), which features some serious "basso profundo" work by the low basses. Secondly, the Harris 'Faire is the Heaven', which is sung with such richness, and at the perfect speed, in my opinion. And finally, Nigel Short's arrangement of The Dying Soldier, which is possibly the most achingly beautiful piece I have ever heard. The first time I heard it (and many of my friends too) it actually made me cry - it is such a powerful performance. There is simply no excuse for this fine recording to not be in your CD collection.

A professional chamber choir formed and founded by former Westminster Cathedral chorister Nigel Short, Tenebrae made its first appearance in London in 2001. The group focused on medieval chant and renaissance pieces, but also took into account more contemporary source material for a new take on a very old sound.
