Album Review
There are some excellent songs here, notably Young's "This Old House" and Crosby's "Compass," but the quartet didn't really jell on its first new studio album in 14 years. Certainly, expectations were so high that the album seemed much worse than it really was, and in retrospect it seems a workmanlike effort simply lacking the spark that made this group so much more than the sum of its parts.

CSNY reunion
by mayphilThis album was recorded 18 years after De Ja Vu, and while it does not hold up in comparison with that legendary album, American Dream still has its moments. The harmonies throughout are pitch perfect. Their voices were still very strong. Crosby comes back from the brink and offers two very good songs, Compass and Nighttime for the Generals. Young and Nash provide several good songs, but Stills manages to pull the album highlight, Got it made, from his bag of tricks. That said, there are a few songs that do not deserve inclusion, and I agree with the other reviewer who complained about the overuse of keyboards which undermines a lot of the music. Otherwise, this is a pretty good album from a legendary group of musicians.

These Old Guys.....
by MichaelRobertIt's difficult to be living legends but CSN&Y frequently have met the challenge in the 2nd half of their careers. Unlike others reviews here, I find the two best tracks to be the first two on the album. "American Dream" by Young and "Got It Made" by Stills are the standouts for me. Several other tracks are also strong and a couple could have been better left for another day. The really amazing thing about CSN&Y is not this album from the 80's but the fact that these guys are still rocking strong in concert today as they enter their early 60's! I could do without their political slant in their concerts but this is who they are and in the end it is the music that counts.
