Speechless
I loved this start to finish, which is rare! "Down in the Valley" and "Bethany" will knock your socks off. i'm sure a tv or movie producer is going to grab them up soon. The title track has a waltzy vibe that catches you off guard and makes you listen to the beauty of their composition. "Not Alright" has a sunny feel that reminds me of what friendship is suppose to be. Overall, they just sound good, plain and simple, good tone, good vibe, good lyrics, good music. I can't stop listening to this album!!
promise fulfilled
I loved the first Maida Vale release, a tasty and too-short EP suggesting landscapes of American folk, country and eclectic rock and roll. This full-length project, while still too-short, elaborates on the sound and vision of a particularly unique brand of Americana. With succinct and suggestive lyrics, Maida Vale's music conjures up scenes of life, love, hope and heartbreak with poignant authenticity. Masterful instrumentation and arrangements prove that these guys can really play. The creativity reflects and gives a nod to the obvious influence of Wilco, but these guys are well on their way to establishing a unique and legitimate sound in American music. An excellent offering!
Keep You Wanting More
Having worked with many artists over the years, I've heard what I would concider some real talent in multiple genres. However, I can honestly say that this record caught me by total suprise. Each time I listen, I hear something new in each song that I hadn't heard before. The maturity and depth that lies within each song leaves a music veteran like myself shaking his head in awe. All this translates into what I consider one of the best releases of the season. Bravo Maida Vale.
