Real Good Americana
A bit rough around the edges. Vocal harmonies could use a tweak. The songs, however, are stellar. Lyrical melodies, fine pickin' and fiddlin' too. Many songs offer a masterful touch with meshing blues and country song forms into cohesive storytelling devices that are instantly accessible and astutely literary. Calling this music plain does it no justice. It's finely realized, unpretentious heartland songcraft.
Modern Americana at it's best
The Letterpress Opry (previously and now once again know as The Mayflies) offer an excellent blend of Americana music. Country, bluegrass, rockabilly, etc. The music and lyrics are well written. The strongest element of the performance may be the musicianship. Stacy singing these lyrics is reminiscent of The Band with hints of early Johnny Cash. Annie's fiddle playing is amazing as well. The music throughout the album takes you many places with it's driving beats and haunting presence. Great heartland music out of Iowa.
