iTunes Review

A cornerstone of the thrash movement, Among the Living stands alongside works by Slayer, Metallica, and Megadeth as a definitive statement of late-eighties metal. While Fistful of Metal and Spreading the Disease established the brutal prowess of this New York quintet, Among the Living found the band coming into its own. They seethe with confidence and focus on “Among the Living” and “A Skeleton In the Closet,” and singer Joey Belladonna has a powerful wail in the tradition of Rob Halford and Bruce Dickinson. In addition to their musical precision, the band started addressing a diverse range of subjects. “I Am the Law” is a tribute to the fearsome character Judge Dredd, and Anthrax crafted a song that perfectly suits the tone of the comic book. “Caught In A Mosh” and “One World” reanimate the band’s hardcore punk roots for a metal setting, while “Efilnikufesin” is a tribute to comedian and fellow hardcore fanatic John Belushi. Most surpring of all is “Indians,” an utterly unironic anthem against the oppression of American aboriginals that has since become an Anthrax fan favorite.

#1 classic

This album is my absolute favorite of all time. If only Anthrax had stayed this way longer in their career, with Joey Belladonna as singer. John Bush just doesn't sustain the good old feel. I highly recommend this, it is an incredible thrash masterpiece.

This album kicks As$!!!

Among The Living is to Anthrax as Master Of Puppets is to Metallica (see my review for that album). All these songs pack an enourmous punch of energy and speed, and have intelligent lyrics that are hard to beat. My favorite songs on this album are Indians, I Am The Law, Among The Living, A Skeleton In The Closet, and Caught In Mosh.

Classic Album

This is definately Anthrax's best album, and it has some of their most popular songs. Listen to "Among the Living", "Caught in a Mosh", "Indians", and "Efilnikufesin (N.F.L.)". Excellent cd.

Nearly as much as Metallica or Megadeth, Anthrax were responsible for the emergence of speed and thrash metal. Combining the speed and fury of hardcore punk with the prominent guitars and vocals of heavy metal, they helped create a new subgenre of heavy metal on their early albums. Original guitarists Scott Ian and Dan Spitz were a formidable pair, spitting out lightning-fast riffs and solos that never seemed masturbatory. Unlike Metallica or Megadeth, they had the good sense to temper their often...
