Nice to hear from Mike.
Yes, this is Mike Pinder formerly of the Moody Blues (although you would not know it from his photo). The mellotron master has not made any radical departures from the sound you might remember from The Promise (his one other solo record from the seventies). Mixing is more modern and sophisticated, but the same spacey ambience and mellow vocals.
A very "moody" side 2
The first 5 songs on "Among The Stars" are pleasant enough, and sound like they were written by a happy family man.
But after the kids have gone to bed (you can hear one being tucked into bed at the end of "When You're Sleeping"), Mike uses side two of the album to explore the cosmos.
"Fantasy Flight, " "Upside Down," and "The World Today" might be the three best songs on the album, and they share the second half of "Among The Stars" with a spacey and beautiful poem (the title track) and a groovy instrumental ("The Waters Beneath The Bridge").
