iTunes Review

Philadelphia’s The Asteroid No. 4 perform a hazy, gloriously lo-fi psychedelia. Inspired as much by the reverb-drenched garage rock / paisley underground of the ‘80s as the original ‘60s incarnation, A4 lose themselves in a cavern of collective sound, a Phil Spector-esque wall of sheer impenetrability. Their previous release Honeyspot sported an inspired, naturalist take on alt-country that suggested the band would be purifying to a simpler sound, but the group reverts to lysergic form here with layers of swooping harmonies, jangly guitars and an extra level of hyper-distorted instruments that create a weightless feeling of traveling through time and space. Unlike most modern psychedelic warriors – Mercury Rev, Flaming Lips – who use the recording studio and its most recent technologies to reach new sonic plateaus, A4 achieve their reverberating clang with the most modest of arrangements. A4 focus on primal rock rhythms and simple chords as “Into the Meadow” and “Belong” attest. Think of them as a blue collar Jesus and Mary Chain.

Wake Up.

Asteroid #4 has awoken from their musical coma to produce an epic and lush album on par with and potentially better than their shoegaze masterpiece, “Introducing Asteroid 4.” Amazing Dream is an amazing tribute to a talented band that never gave up on their creative ideas. They just woke up to realize what they do best. It may have taken some time, but it is well worth the wait.

"Into the Meadow", genius track...

What a jewel. Check it out. This was how I visualized it upon first listen: Soundtrack song for another freaky deaky Quentin Tarintino flick (who happens to be my all time no-brainter favorite director by the way)! That would be PERFECT! If only it were true...

Better late than Never!!

Ok, some crazy, black-hole has kept me beautiful ears from hearing this enduring band until now.
Why have I not read about these guys or heard them before? Pitchfork?? Just proves those guys have their heads up their ... Well you know whats.
This album: An Amazing Dream is just absolutely stunning. It's the best thing I've heard in ten years, right there with Cyrptograms, JDilla's Donuts, anything Boards releases and Spiritualized's Ladies and Gentlemen.
The tracks vary in style with folky, rave up numbers: Ask Me About Pittsburgh, In Your Eyes. More spacey stuff like Go Ahead. Surf guitar, awesome sounds and much more throughout. Just killer and cohesive throughout.
I am do happy this came to me from out of the ether! It is stunning.
