The excellent two-disc set Analphabetapolothology collects the entirety of the Cap'n Jazz oeuvre, assembling all of the singles and compilation tracks as well as unreleased eight-track demos and live material from their final show in their native Chicago.

Fire is motion...

quite possibly one of the most dramatic and energetic emo bands to come out of the early 90's scene. this compilation encompasses what it means to truly play good music. there is something for everyone here: driving guitars, heartfelt and often ambigious lyrics, covers, comedy, and everything else you would want out of a great album. a great start for any music lover looking to take the plunge.

the music is bouncy and catchy, the lyrics are playful and full of energy, full of the tension and confusion of suburban youth.... if i heard these songs now for the first time, they wouldn't grab me half as much as they did when i was 17. i hope that it's not too late for you to really enjoy this amazing band.

Cap

I can't stress enough the importance this and many other albums had on my growing up. They definitely kept me away from bands like Bon Jovi, Warrant, and any other trash that was around. (Yes this means you too Pearl Jam!!) If you like these guys definetely check out bands, Silkworm, Seam, Sunny Day Real Estate, Shudder to Think, Dinosaur Jr., etc.

Short-lived but highly influential, Cap'n Jazz helped transform emo from a deeply underground punk subgenre into a more widely accepted subset of indie rock. Not terribly popular or well-known outside of the Midwest, Cap'n Jazz's main contribution was stylistic — along with Pinkerton-era Weezer, they helped shift emo's always-elusive musical focus from post-hardcore prog-punk to an arty but more accessible punk-pop.
