Familiar hymns, fresh sound!
Andrew Greer's second solo release, "Angel Band: The Hymn Sessions" is full of the beautiful, rich songs that he (and many of us) grew up singing. What makes this album such a pleasure to experience -- because it really is more than just a "listening" record -- is the thoughtful and careful arrangement on each track. Collaborating with some of his favorite musicians and singers, Greer's "Angel Band" is so much more than a collection of hymns; it is a personal story of finding and even rediscovering simple and timeless truths in the midst of 21st century life.
Some of the tracks are lush and full, some are clean and spare. All are beautifully done and experiencing this record is truly an opportunity to worship. Buy this album. You won't be disappointed!
Angel Band: The Hymn Sessions
This record is beautiful! Andrew has a way of pulling the authenticity of the hymns into current song, yet this record is not just another "fresh take on old hymns". It is so much more. Andrew shares his life, hope, and faith through the selections on the record. These tracks not only take your ears on an incredible musical journey through unique arrangments, brilliant vocal harmonies, and touching lyrics, but more so takes your heart on a revealing spiritual journey.
Jesus Walk The Water and I'll Ride The Waves
This second album from Andrew Greer (a follow up to Open Book) is phenomenal. He takes the ordinary and transforms it to something truly new, innovative and exciting. Even though this is a collection primarily made up of hymns, Greer breathes new life into each of them making them fresh and alive. All the tracks stand out on their own but my favorites are "The Lord's Prayer", "Down By The Riverside" and "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus". I HIGHLY recommend this collection to anyone who loves hymns or getting back to their roots...or just good music! Greer is an old soul that I feel will be inspiring us changing the way we look at music for years to come.
