Happily suprised

This album is super chill... perfect for when you want to relax and listen to great lyrics and smooth vocals. I would say go for it... makes for a GREAT change from the norm

Edwards and Margot Dig Into Their Niche

Margot has finally hit their stride. Mixing their usual winter-esque folk rock with a new twist of country, this album is characteristically Margot with new insights and less depression. Lead singer Richard Edwards is the same heartbroken storyteller as he has always been--weaving tales of women, drugs and existentialism over magnificent pianos and epic violins--only now he focuses less on the depressing apathy of winter and more on the complex nature of women and relationships, telling of a turbulent and reverent relationship with the mysterious "Mariel". The songs on Animal work best in tandem, but individual highlights include the trippy "Children's Crusade On Acid", the beautiful "Cold, Kind, and Lemon Eyes" and the cheery single, "As Tall As Cliffs".

Listen to this album all the way through...

...that's the best way to hear it, in my opinion. The extra songs that are on this album (versus "Not Animal"), make it totally worth the purchase! "O' What a Nightmare" is one of my favorites, as well as "Mariel". See these guys live if you ever get a chance, they bring these songs to life in a way that can't ever quite be caught on tape.
