iTunes Review
"Recorded during the U.K.'s '70s punk uprising, Animals, Pink Floyd's darkest, least accessible album, contains three epic compositions with a brief acoustic ballad (""Pigs On the Wing"") bookending the album. The band's perceived ""self-indulgences"" — their long instrumental passages — are on grand display. Bassist Roger Waters' bleak assessment of humanity, inspired by George Orwell's Animal Farm, dividing people into ""Dogs,"" ""Pigs"" and ""Sheep,"" drives the album's conceptual thrust. His lyrics, however, are still edited to a minimalism that he would abandon for the band's next sprawling project The Wall. Here, the band is still gainfully employed as a space-rock entity that relies heavily on Richard Wright's jazz and classically influenced keyboard runs, David Gilmour's surging and cathartic guitar effects, and drummer Nick Mason's understated, never-to-be-rushed drum patterns. There are no hits. There are no quick and easy hooks. This is music best absorbed over time. It remains a singular accomplishment and one of the essentials of late-‘70s hard rock. No other album sounds quite like it."

How can you not love this album?
by metalhead888I'm new to Pink Floyd. I used to strongly dislike them, but I started listening to other progressive bands and I gave Pink Floyd another chance. I stumbled upon this album, and I must say it is an absolute masterpiece. Very few bands reach a level of inspiration and musical genius as this album. This album is far better than their overrated album The Dark Side Of The Moon.
