Annasthesia will please ya!
I'm new to Nathan Johnson and his band and man I'm glad I found them!! I am super impressed! If you like unconventional grooves, good beats with a rocker edge, then you need to check these guys out. They have a dreamy (like semi-creepy-movie dreamy) sound that works really well. This album takes you from feeling like you're at a weird carnival while a rockin, cool beat is playing in the background, to wishing you were a filmmaker so you could use this music in your soundtrack!!! Tunes like "Bullet" and "Carparks & Cublicles" are a must listen to. I guarantee if you're playing this album at a party.. people WILL be asking you "Who is this??"
Sounds familiar...like nothing you've heard before
I got this from a friend, then saw them live. I'll admit I wasn't super impressed until I saw them live. Once in a long time a band comes along that cannot be contained in a couple of mp3s. Thankfully Cinematic Underground has broken this monotony of hit singles. Their album is seamless with nothing standing out as a hit above the others. It is as much of a story of the hard work of Nathan Johnson as it is a story of love & escape. The sound is familiar, you can point fingers at a lot of melancholic bands as having an influence, but the pleasure comes from the fact that they don't sound like any of those bands. Johnson dances the fine line of flattering mimcry, not droolingly worshipful of the bands he is influnced by, and not trying to be impossibly unique. Download the album, but to do them justice, you must see them live!
