Very Clever Annie...!
Make me come as a surprise
I think it's obvious that Dance music has become kind of lackluster over the past few years since the breaking of god awful nu-rave and electro in the mainstream ( that band 'LMFAO' or a large portion of hip hop radio). I can't disagree more with a review saying that the sound of this single is boring and not as good as an artist that is basically making tired "forgettable 80s revival sounds". The avant-garde feel that once backed electroclash and early 2000's disco revival is completely gone and I would hope to all hell that Annie would not adhere herself to a sound that would make her seem passe.
When Annie released 'Anniemal' in 2004, she shook underground clubs up a bit with a sound that was almost disney channel-esque next to other contemporary mainstream electronic artists of the time (LCD Soundsystem, Mount Sims, Peaches, M.I.A.). With this single and her new album 'Don't Stop', It is a sign of progression and maturity in her music direction. Annie stands tall with booming dance beats, heart melting electronic lullabies and what seems to be an homage to her italo disco-punky roots (reference her DJ-Kicks album for this) with 'Anthonio'.
Annie is a total Gem of our time. Her understated sounds and pop star sensibilities are the makings of a music personality that will be praised as 'the vintage cool' by music heads in generations to come.
