Album Review

It seems that Ben Weasel and company have matured a great deal upon the release of Anthem for a New Tomorrow. Now playing as a four-piece, Screeching Weasel aren't slowing down with their continual aggravations toward everyday life and all-around stupid people. Songs like "I'm Gonna Strangle You" and "Rubber Room" continue in that tradition, but what's different are the callings for a social change on "A New Tomorrow," and the lack of individuality in American culture with "I, Robot." Not as raw and punchy as their previous album, Wiggle, but with the slick production and ability to jam keyboards in the mix without sounding "artsy," Screeching Weasel remain one step ahead of the game. one of weasel's greatest

I first found a green sleeved cassette of Boogadaboogadboogada in a boardwalk skate shop in O.C. New Jersey. I was hooked and I had finally found some music I could relate to. It was my favorite until I found Anthem for a New Tomorrow a few years later. It's top notch. I've recently been comparing Ben Weasel's "newer" independent albums with some older stuff and while I favor the maturity in his newer tunes this album will endure as one of his best and SW's best and a punk classic (if there is such a thing.) The album flows the way a good punk album should (if you can say that about a punk album) and there is something to Anthem that I haven't heard in any other SW abum... It's sound is kind of "epic" (if you can call a punk album that). Buy it.

Did you know?

Did you know that Mike Dirnt plays bass on this album? He's the best!! (This album is pretty good, with or without him.)

Best SW album

Mike Dirnt is NOT on this album, as a previous post states. He does play on How to Make Enemies and Irritate People... Also a great album.

Chicago's Screeching Weasel generally have a polarizing effect on most punk fans — either you love their amateurish, tuneful Ramones imitation and singer/guitarist Ben Weasel's smartass suburbanite, often pop culture-oriented lyrics, or you hate them. Over the course of the band's career, which lasted for more than a decade and saw several breakups and numerous personnel changes, Weasel (in spite of occasional nitpicking...
