iTunes Review

Teaming up with producer John Rich of Big and Rich for her first foray into country music, modern day adult-contemporary folksinger Jewel easily makes the transition. Actually, it isn’t a transition so much as a matter of instrument choices. Rich adds slide guitar, fiddle, banjo and mandolin to Jewel’s usual arsenal of acoustic guitar and piano. Jewel tilts her delivery slightly towards country music inflections, but it’s mostly the back-up singers, the interjected instrumental hooks and the overall pacing of the tunes that signify country. “I Do” would be a straight-forward pop tune if not for its slide guitar solo. “Stronger Woman” delivers a self-empowerment anthem that’s one electric guitar shy of pop-rock. “Love is A Garden,” Two Become One,” and “Anyone But You” settle in for soft-rock with pianos leading Jewel down the contemplative path of pleasant love song platitudes. Jewel’s strengths have always been her melodies and her irony-free sincerity. And, yes, she gets her chance to use her legendary yodeling skills for “Loved By You (Cowboy Waltz).”  Still not a complete country girl, but she’s on the range.

amazing.

this is the most solid jewel album since "this way." bar none. "i do" is a mid-paced love song about whether you're willing to make the sacrifice to spend your life with someone. guess what? you are. "thump, thump" is about as beautiful and simple a love song as there gets. she said she wrote it for her boyfriend "because after 10 years, he still makes my heart go thump, thump." mmm. you finally get some on-album yodeling with "loved by you," and "perfectly clear" is a hardcore fan favorite that is everything we've always hoped for, production-wise. simple and heart-breaking.

One of Jewel's Best - A Gem on First Listen

I have been a fan of Jewel, since just after her coffee house days, and I have seen her in concert over a dozen times. "Perfectly Clear," is a stunningly gorgeous demonstration of Jewel's unique, fascinating storytelling. Furthermore, the sound is fantastic. I care very little for country music, but this album is fantastic and quickly rose to one be one of my favorite Jewel albums ever despite having only listened fully one time. Typically I need a dozen listens before really understanding and enjoying the sound of an album. Not here, this album is great right off the first push of the play button.

The variety and quality of songs on here is fantastic. From older treasures, to new creations, they are found here. They will delight you, put you at peace, and entertain you.

My next album hope? This album was fully enjoyed. I still want, someday, the average CD or radio listener to hear the brilliance that is Jewel live. A Jewel live album, or live-style album would further complete her discography.

Lovely Jewel

This CD sounds like classic Jewel, Folk runs right in with country, and If one knows anything about her history they should know that she comes from a family of musicians who did bluegrass, and yodeling. She has yodeled in ALOT of her old music...ppl just didn't pick up on it because it was to a rock/pop beat...but it worked didn't it? Please do not say the girl is out of her element, she can do anything...granted folk is a type of country, and she has with the exception of her pop/dance album always been in the midst of a rock/pop/folk/country limbo...for years. In a generation of genre crossing, and breaking people are quick to judge one who is multi-talented. I have never seen Jewel in person but I have listened to her through the years, and in the past few she has lost and gained some fans...the reality is we have to stop being fanatics...Idolizing and critisizing the every twitch of our favorite artists, and recognize that they are the same as we are, their talent just happens to be singing, or acting...everyone has talent...some get more recognition than others, and that is makes some people seem better than others....but they are not...some people can cook, some can work wood and make amazing masterpieces, some people are great leaders and easily earn the respect of those around them, some are equestirans, some write blueprints, and yet still some work at Micky D's...but don't downplay that either...they could be the picture of dedication and hard work...for the love of their family, or they could be encouraging their fellow worker to do their best regardless of the situation...any one can be a master of something...everyone can work together and respect one another......I am sure that even Jewel Respects the bartender....I think at one point she worked at a bar in Alaska...everyone has to start somewhere...everyone has a story, so Enjoy the art that she has chosen to share with us, or enjoy someone else's that you can appreciate...dont diss her because of your personal taste, or opinion...find someone you do

Best Wishes to all!

FYI: check out her yodeling skillz on # 10
for a little old school Jewel lovely #9 #11
