Mighty Aphrodite

Despite being mostly unrecognized in the US for the front half of her career, Kylie, the Australian-born, UK-transplant diva, is slowly but surely winning the hearts of Americans with her disco-inspired tunes, sultry / euphoric voice, and bubbly personality. Her new album is executively produced by Stuart Price who has worked with The Killers, Madonna, and recently the Scissor Sisters. Needless to say his work is exceptional and with Aphrodite he definitely didn't hold back.

Aphrodite is pure dance pop at its best and Kylie is the shining beacon of light beckoning her followers to the dancefloor. Each track builds a cohesive story upon the other, a romance of sound and lyric. Her lover is called forth, pushed away, celebrated and sought for, whilst electronic basslines and middle 8s rock the heels of the listener.

Honestly, I don't think there is a single song I dislike. Even the bonus track has its own wonderful character and the lyrics can easily be related to Kylie's personal struggle.

If you like Lady Gaga, Madonna, Katy Perry, or anyone in the dance-pop category, and have not yet listened to Kylie Minogue, buy this album immediately. You won't be disappointed.

Kylie is Awesome!

I would say that Kylie is not an artist that likes to Re-Invent herself every album. I feel she takes aspect from her previous self and just adds to make something even more amazing. This album proves that, its got vibes from Body Language, Fever, and Light Years. US critics call this a "safe" move for Kylie but I feel its exactly what we need. Some positive fun music. Lets make this NUMBER 1 in the US. Spread the Kylie Love!!!!!!!

Mighty Aphrodite Indeed!

While others revel in the button-pushing Madonna, and the taste pushing Gaga, I will continue to be having a good time over in Camp Kylie. For just over 20 years, Kylie Minogue has been delighting the world with shimmering pop-dance music. Aphrodite is another crowd pleaser.

Now, don't get me wrong, I enjoy Madonna and Gaga but Kylie is my gal. Mainly because Kylie music knows that it's supposed to be fun and never really pretends to be anything other than that. I will say that some of this album is a bit samey. It is mostly upbeat with not a moment to spare but the songs are strong and the ones that stand out, REALLY stand out.

For me those would be the first single, All the Lovers, Get Out of My Way, Put Your Hands Up, Closer, Everything is Beautiful, Aphrodite, Illusion, Better Than Today and Can't Beat the Feeling. You'll notice that's nearly every song! I's not that the others are bad, it's just that those are my favorite. And don't get me wrong, I know Kylie is not for everyone but she should be. Critics say that she's not cutting edge or that her music is too much on the surface. Why? What's wrong with having a GOOD time?

On the one hand, pop musically speaking, worldbeaters such as Kylie Minogue are few and far between. Singers and performers of her stature and popularity rarely maintain their power for as long as she was able to. Her streaks of number one singles in both Australia and the U.K. are nearly insurmountable. And yet, on the other hand, her inability to really crack open the American pop market over the course of her career is a story that is heard all too often from groups hailing from nations as pop...
