Album Review
"Barbie Girl" is one of those inexplicable pop culture phenomena — a bouncy, slightly warped Euro-dance song that simultaneously sends up femininity and Barbie dolls. Mattel wasn't too amused, but the public was, making it a huge hit in Europe and America. Like many Europop acts, Aqua isn't capable of delivering another song as insanely catchy as "Barbie Girl," but there's plenty of infectious filler that keeps the album moving along at a nice pace.

Stop Calling It "Cheese"
by Butterfly2233There's more here than "silly Europop". Just because it's not Debussy or a classic rock band, that doesn't mean that it doesn't go somewhere. Just because something is of a certain style does not mean there's nothing more than cheesiness. Musically, for what is, Aquarium is impressive. It's more than catchy; the lyrics are melodies flow together perfectly. "Doctor Jones", "Roses are Red" and "My Oh My" deliver more than silly sweetness: they're sexy with a delicious vibe that the Swedish pop/electro artists are famous for.
"Turn Back Time" is truly a beautiful and sometimes haunting song. There's something deeper in this album than a running joke or a catchy verse. For their debut, Aqua masters and delivers.
