Album Review

"Barbie Girl" is one of those inexplicable pop culture phenomena — a bouncy, slightly warped Euro-dance song that simultaneously sends up femininity and Barbie dolls. Mattel wasn't too amused, but the public was, making it a huge hit in Europe and America. Like many Europop acts, Aqua isn't capable of delivering another song as insanely catchy as "Barbie Girl," but there's plenty of infectious filler that keeps the album moving along at a nice pace.

I Hope You Like EuroCheese!

If you want a stereotypical cheesy 90s dance album, then you've come to the right place. Sure, it's cheesy, but we're not talking about the sickeningly mediocre cheesy, we're talking about the fun, good cheesy. Aqua made success with their breakout hit "Barbie Girl" which exploits the phenomena of the doll, and continued with the great "Dr. Jones". This album is full of little guilty pleasures, and overall proves to be a worthwhile buy. 1. "Happy Boys and Girls" - A fun introduction to the Aqua world: poppy, dancey, and strictly 90s. You'll be dancing in no time. 2. "My Oh My" - Get transported to a Disney-ish castle in this fantasy-ish song. Pretty good. 3. "Barbie Girl" - If you haven't heard this, I'm not sure where you've been. It's an instant classic. 4. "Good Morning Sunshine" - Aqua is also very good at downtempo ballads, as shown here. The vocalist shines on the downtempo ones. 5. "Dr. Jones" - Best song on the album, even better than "Barbie Girl". 6. "Heat of the Night" - A good party song. 7. "Be A Man" - A more serious song for once. 8. "Lollipop (Candyman)" - Another Aqua song I'm sure you've heard, either in a candy store or elsewhere. Way too catchy for its own good. 9. "Roses are Red" - Puts a twist on the rhyme. 10. "Turn Back Time" - Another good downtempo ballad. 11. "Calling You" - Another really good song, one of the best on the album. Kind of like an introduction to trance music with the music, but in other ways far from it. So, overall, this is a great album with amazing vocals and pretty cheesy lyrics but in the good way. The uptempo songs are fun, and the downtempo ballads are a nice little escape from the inner child which is outside most of the time during this album. Overall the album gets an A-. As Puppy Dog said, not only is "Barbie Girl" fetch, but it deserves remixes.

The song Barbie Girl rocks it's so fetch. It hot! To bad they didn't make a remix! that would of been hotter!

Pretty good

This album is catchy and upbeat. It's tons of fun. Everyone loves Barbie Girl because it's so funny but the other songs aren't too bad either. :)
