Album Review

With the presence of brutal riffs and keyboards, Finland's Children of Bodom sounds at times like Fear Factory fronted by a hardcore screamer, especially on their 2005 release, Are You Dead Yet? The group's fifth studio album (which was co-produced by Children of Bodom and Mikko Karmila, the chap who produced their previous outing, 2003's Hate Crew Deathroll) shows the quintet plowing full steam ahead, as the venom continues to bubble to the surface throughout. But the group also has an unmistakable prog metal edge to boot, as the tricky interplay between guitarist Alexi Wildchild Laiho (who also doubles as vocalist) and keyboardist Janne Warmen on "Punch Me I Bleed" certainly brings to mind Dream Theater. And since it's nearly impossible to hear any new European metal band from the mid-'90s onward and not hear an unmistakable Iron Maiden influence, the guitar work between Laiho and Roope Latvala in "Bastards of Bodom" certainly brings to mind Dave Murray and Adrian Smith. Although they may often be lumped in with the majority of other European "extreme metal" bands, there is definitely a progressive air that surrounds Children of Bodom.

If yyou are a true bodom fan

If you are a true fan you will love this album no matter what, bodom deserves to be heard on the radio bodom deserves to make money: i'd rather them then all this emo crap all these lil girls need to start liking real men lol. so who cares how popular or mainstreme something is if its good its good and true musicians know this. Hatecrew was killer follow the reaper was killer and every album they change up there sound a little otherwise you'd get the same ole thing everytime. If you are a wannabe trying to be hardcore by listening to the most underground black metal u can find you are just that not a real musician.

Atom's #1 Heavy Metal CD of 2005

Nothing does it for me like Bodom can. I've seen them twice, and met Alexi...and he personally told me "We are on a mission to destroy everyone on earth, and won't stop till we die!" These guys are my "Van Halen" if you will. Please buy this album if you have a shred of metal in your soul...it will save you.

Real Metal

This is real metal. Along with artists like Lamb of God and Pantera, this is read god damned metal... and yes, it is more hardcore than their other albums, but Alexi's beyond-amazing, lightning fast, and precise guitar work is still present in almost every song... and that one of the many things that shapes Bodom and makes them different (and kick-ass). So, if you think it's a good idea to bash this album, I think it's a good idea to bash you in the head with a brick.
