iTunes Review

Everyone knows Hendrix's story: that of a chitlin-circuit pro who moved to England for his big chance, grew his hair, and turned up the volume on everything from his Marshall stack to his sartorial choices. Paired with a British rhythm section, Hendrix quickly announced a new breed of hard rock with a slowed-down, mysterious cover of the garage-band murder ballad "Hey Joe." Soon, Are You Experienced arrived, displaying a visionary approach that combined flights of lyrical fancy ("The Wind Cries Mary"), avant-jazz rhythms (the bridge of "Love or Confusion"), and two-ton feathers of post-blues noise ("I Don't Live Today"). When Hendrix turned the title cut's guitar solo into a backward-tape reverie of sustained notes and swoops, he echoed his hero Bob Dylan's famous quote "It used to go like that; now it goes like this." But he wasn't just talking about one song.

One of the Best of All Time

This classic album was the theme music of a multitude of people during it's initial release in the late 1960s. I was one of them and actually had it on 4 track (not 8 track but a 4 track player in my car). Hendrix was able to bring an edge to Rock and Roll and redefined an entire Genre of Music that still is admired by young and old alike today. Hendrix was the master of playing the guitar and all of the controls and feedbacks he could to produce a new kind of Wall-Of-Sound that defined him and led a new revolution in virtuoso guitar work. If you are familiar with Hendrix work, then you would know this was his best work, If you are not familiar with Jimi Hendrix and want to know what to buy from any era, this is it. He has other great songs on other albums, but this is truly a period piece that stands on it's own and defines an era in Music and Culture that will live on in our memories forever.

Are You Experienced?

With an album like this, I don't even know where to start. The opening track, Purple Haze, is widely known as not only Hendrix's best song, but one of the most important songs in blues and rock music history. Every song on the album has something unique and amazing about it, and every time you listen, you find something you never knew was in the song. He took an older song, Hey Joe, and created his own, entirely different take on it, becoming a successful hit.

In Are You Experienced?, Jimi Hendrix covered a number of different genres and musical aspects. The guitar work in songs like The Wind Cries Mary, Foxey Lady, and Red House show why he is the greatest guitarist of all time. With songs like Fire, Manic Depression, and Can You See Me, Hendrix set a path for future hard rock and metal artists. Although, when you look back on the late 60's, you think of the psychedelic rock, which is evident in songs like Love or Confustion, Third Stone From the Sun, and May This Be Love. Other songs like Highway Chile and Stone Free just show the outstanding songwriter that Jimi was and how he could make the listener never want the album to end.

For any fan of Jimi's music, you know that this albums tops all of his others. If you are newer to his music and you are looking for his best work, this is it. Are You Experienced? is a masterpiece covering a number of genres, and is fitting as one of the greatest debut albums of all time, as well as one of the greatest albums of all time.

THIS WAS GROUND BREAKING IN 1967 and STILL IS IN 2010

I can remember buying this in VINYL in 1967 and hearing my parents discuss wether or not to send me to a psychologist !!!! 43 years later and my carreer in music has allowed me to reitre earlier than most workers. only in music is your retirement is all based on how ya did at your craft Thanks to Guiarists like JIMI, Jeff Beck, Clapton, Buddy Guy and a load of others I did well and live a good life and I owe it to the albums of the late 60;s for it was then that I decided to be a guitarist. The re-mastering on this album is fantastice but what I found very intriging is listen to Chas Chandler,Jimi's manager, Mitch MItchell and old interviews with Noel it was great as a musician to find out how they made some of those sounds that today's guitar players everywhere are trying to emulate. To findout that an album that was as groudbreaking as this was finished in 10 days and most cuts FIRST TIME...... JEEEZ when I did my first lp in 78 it took 10 days to get 4 songs done out of which only 2 were even used, Bascially re-purchsing this CD was as GREAT and EXCITING as it was as a teenager, but this is much better, the BONUS FOOTAGE, and VIDEO BOOKLET make it a must buy along with the extra tracks. GO BACK TO YOUR BEST YEARS AND BUY THIS AND SIT BACK WITH A SETA OF HEADPHONES AND TURN IT UP AFTER THIS YOU WILL BE EXXPERIENCED !!! St.James
