Album Review
Bound by a record contract legally preventing him from leaving his band, Kansas, Kerry Livgren recorded this album and released it in the religious marketplace. Though comparisons with Kansas cannot be denied, this is an original effort with a unique sound. Often mysterious or ominous, often passionate and urgent, this is an exciting listen. Definitely a religious record, much in the praise & worship realm. Controversial "Games of Chance and Circumstance" decries the legalization of abortion in the U.S.A. Where Livgren really shines as a writer is on the more ominous and foreboding songs, such as "The Fury" and "We Are the Men." Newly re-released on Numavox records, this record may be able to reach an audience missed by the obscurity of its original release. ~ Mark W. B. Allender, Rovi
Customer Reviews
Great Album!
Being a child from the 80's (literaly) I was raised on music from that time. I'm also a christian and thoroughly enjoy this album. I'm not sure why iTunes made a point to say it has clean lyrics for these downloads, the album was clean when I listened to it 10 years ago. Don't be scared off by the marking of "clean lyrics", this album is appropriate for my baby sister to listen to. Hope you enjoy this well done album!
A Blast From My Past
Kansas literally changed my life and the biggest part of that was due to Kerry Livgren's songs of spiritual searching and yearning which I identified with as a teenager. Kerry's work with AD was deeply influential on my faith development. While some writers were happy to produce "Shiny Happy Jesus" tunes, Kerry always went much deeper. Songs such as "Heartland" and the epic "The Fury" would not be out of place on a Kansas album. And "Up From the Wasteland" is simply musical and lyrical perfection. If you've never listened to Kerry's AD recordings, I hope you will give them a chance. There are some beautiful songs on this release!
Another Missed Effort...
Missed by Kerry's Kansas fans that is. This got pigeon-holed in religious bookstores, rather than attaining any real airplay for Kansas fans.
