iTunes Review

Possessed by dazzling lyrical flows and production, this British/Sri Lankan MC is a unique performer and unlikely but welcome byproduct of globalization. Influenced by dancehall, hip-hop, garage and bhangra, M.I.A. is a child of the world, hop-scotching across multiple genres, but always informed by sharp political and cultural consciousness. Along with the amazing crossover smash "Galang," M.I.A. asserts herself most potently on sure shots "Bucky Done Gun," "Fire Fire," "Pull Up the People," and "Sunshowers."

Arular

I didn't like it at first. The more I listen it, the more I like it. It's great for dancing and having fun. I recommend this album. Her music is different, but it's great. If you like this album, you'll also like Bonde do Role's album "With Lasers".

OH EM GEE!!!

people think "galang" is the best song and the only song worth buying but when you take a closer look, ALL OF HER SONGS ARE AMAZING. it's so weird!! BUY THE ENTIRE CD it's worth the investment!!!!!!!

(Edited)ing great

I finally bought this album after hearing her through some friends more familiar with the British scene and seeing her at Coachella 2005. She does a good live show! Very energetic and really knows how to work the crowd. We cheered for about 5 minutes long and she came out and did a few more songs as "encore". As for the album - it's very short and each track carries different beats, which to me is what makes it successful. All too often "dance" or rhythm based albums start to sound the same after 3 songs. It's not a particularly "angry" or even PC record even though it touches on issues of identity, sex work, war, poverty, exploitation, etc, but it gets me moving and wanting to shout words out with her. I got my copy elsewhere and it came with lyrics - which I was really glad to find. It also wasn't the edited version. Maybe they did this so kids could party to this CD without hearing profanity?

If you read a lot about new music on the Web, odds are pretty good that, at some point between the September 2004 release of "Galang" and the March 2005 release of Arular, you were struck with the urge to turn your computer off or maybe even heave it out of a nearby window. If you don't read a lot about new music on the Web, the preceding sentence indicates how bewildering and draining the chatter about M.I.A. became. Arular, M.I.A.'s first album, leaked well before its official release, allowing...
