Album Review

As Above: Live at the Lizard Lounge is the first documentation of two years' worth of Tuesday night shows by Michael Rivard's Club d'Elf at Cambridge's Lizard Lounge. As the name implies, Club d'Elf is more a club than a band, with Rivard leading a core crew and a revolving cast of musicians with wildly divergent backgrounds. Having played with everyone from Either/Orchestra to the Story has given Rivard a wealth of different musicians to draw from, ranging from Duke Levine to Reeves Gabrels to Dr. Didg to Mat and Joe Maneri. The modus operandus: Find a groove and work it as long as you can.
