Album Review

European and American audiences often somewhat patronizingly think of African pop music as being somehow more "pure" and "elemental" than their own. However, the marvelous thing about the first full-length album by Nigerian soul belter Asa is that the singer/songwriter has created an album that's as immediately accessible as Duffy's Rockferry or Adele's 19 in its blend of R&B, pop, and vintage soul. Even the one track in Asa's native tongue, "Eye Adaba," wouldn't sound out of place on a Corinne Bailey Rae album.

This Artist Can Be The Reason Why They Need To Create A Ten Star Category!!!!!!!

A Massive Voice, A Massive Sound, A Revolutionary Sound. We must not silence her voice for it needs to burst over our planet. I am truly inspired. The first track on this album gives us much reason to rejoice in the fact that Bob Marley lives on in Asa just as he does in Jah Cure. Jah Cure has chosen Mr. Jailer as one of his international release singles coming out this February as he prepares for his upcoming and first ever release album since his release from prison. It speaks volumes to the power of Asa' songwriting abilities and a honor to have her massive hit rework by Jah Cure, bring a fresh new voice to her already potent and meaningful words. The idea of seeing yourself as similar to that of a prison guard, brings the humanity to a world that we tend to easily ignore. Just because we now have the first black president does not mean that we have to ignore the 1 million or more black men in prison or that of other races in general who lack the capacity for real rehabilitation. Jailer gives us that window into that world in a way that springs to life with an urgency for real meditation on the issues. The track So Beautiful is just that. Bibanke is powerful and Fire on the Mountain is straight Fire. Water cannot cool or quench this voice. It is one yearning for something greater, a force that has not been invented or forge yet. It is one that speaks to our people and connects us to our ancestors. I cannot wait to see what this artist has in store for the future. This artist does what music is suppose to do. And that is to connect a unique message to the rest of humanity. It reminds us that to be human to simply to render our hearts and mind and accept the fact that change is truly inevitable. Just as change has come to America, let us give this artist the equal chance ever other great artist before her and after truly deserves; a chance to change and develop our minds in this the world we live in and for us to dream a little longer about the world we seek. And please please, do not forget the jailer and the jailed for we are all connected. Also go out and support Jah Cure's Universal Cure come April. One love, One Heart, One Destiny.

Chuck Norris is Back

Wonderful voice, there's a unique feel to her music. She's very popular in Europe. She better be famous here cuz ill flip a bizznatch if she isn't. I can listen to Jailer any time, any place. Fire on the mountain is the #2 of the album. And then i'd put subway or 360 degrees at #3. Great Album!

One of my Favorite of Motherland Music

Was surprised when i first saw it. But i love every single one of the tracks with rich culture spirit and emotions flowing through all of them. But the one i love most out of all the track is EYE ADABA.

Asa set off to take flight with the release of her first single, "Fire on the Mountain," in 2007. The single (which has a surprisingly lilting melody for its accompanying lyrics warning of ecological disaster) had already received wide airplay on stations in Europe when her self-titled debut album hit stores in October of that same year. Asa (pronounced Asha) is no stranger to France, where her album was recorded and produced, having been born in the capital city of Paris. Born Bukola Elemide in...
