Album Review

New Orleans is known for producing musicians in search of a good time, men who are long on boogie, but short on content. Osborne just might be the exception. He owes as much to artists like Jackson Browne and early Bruce Springsteen as he does to Dr. John or Professor Longhair. Have no fear, most of these songs still bring the slurry wobble most people love about the Big Easy, but there's a self-deprecation to these lyrics and enough dark imagery to make sure you take Osborne seriously. Whether he turns into Townes Van Zandt (hopefully), or Bob Seger (hopefully not), remains to be seen. This is a snapshot of an artist discovering himself. Very good in its own right, it leads one to believe the next record just might be a classic. Stay tuned.

A fantastic album

A blues man with real songwriting talent, not just rehashing the old but fantastic blues standards but giving the blues a contemporary edge while remaing true to its drunken, ragged heart. Contemporaries like Tab Benoit can Corey Harris lend the same infusion of song writing while remaining true.

Ash Wednesday Blues, Anders Osborne

First heard Anders Osborne on a college radio show, doing "ash Wednesday blues", bought the CD, and loved it, especially the first two numbers.

NOLA music

Anders Osborne is a awesome talent, and this is probably his best work. The music on this album, rocks, boogies, and aches with the heart and soul of Osborne's adopted home of New Orleans. He is a tremendous talent that can play a stumbling, New Orleans boogie, ("Stone Drunk, and Naked"), and a soulful acoustic ballad (Me and Lola). There is great variety on this album, and if you are into Rock, Blues, or New Orleans music, do not pass this up. Anders puts on a great show and if you ever get the chance to see him I highly reccommend it.

Up-and-coming may have been a good way to describe guitarist, singer, and songwriter Anders Osborne earlier in his career, but Osborne's fame has now spread beyond the borders of New Orleans, a city where he first cut his teeth and developed a reputation for incendiary live shows. Osborne was born in Sweden in 1966. His father was a professional drummer and a jazz fan whose early-'60s jazz combo played clubs throughout Europe. At a young age, he became fascinated with the singer/songwriters of the...
