Narwhals and Growling
It's like a journey into the Arctic circle with nothing but a pack of Fritos, a ballpoint pen and the motor chain from a snowmobile. Which could also be the setup to an episode of Survivorman. But at any rate, you will probably think that Tanya Tagaq is a werewolf by the end of it. Except she'd be a werewolf that you wouldn't mind that much if she ripped you to shreds. She's friends with Bjork, and Bjork's swan dress would probably eat up the remaining shreds of you. You can make the whole process far quicker and less painful by buying this album. And for the full effect, at around Christmas time, buy a large refridgerator and get somebody to lock you in and listen until you uncover a universal truth.
great vocal prowess
This Inuit throat singer brings charm and adventurous meanderings to the indie rock scene. "Fire - Ikuma" features the vocal guest Mike Patton (Mr Bungle, Tomahawk, Fantomas, among others).
Auk/Blood
Guaranteed - you've never heard anything like it (unless you're already a fan of Inuit throat music) and to make it more interesting, she did not grow up singing this in spite of living near the North Pole. She had heard this music but only learned it when she was studying art as a young woman. Completely original modern jazz take on ancient sound.
