iTunes Review

It’s not surprising that James McCartney should sound like his father, Paul McCartney. The younger McCartney not only sounds like dear old dad, he’s obviously been schooled by his elder in the areas of songwriting and arranging. Paul and David Kahne co-produced, so that’s a lot of industry expertise. The apple has fallen close to the tree, but what a wonderful tree. It’s hard to fault anyone for sounding so sweet and alluring. “My Friend” is a satisfying ballad that builds in energy and excitement. The first single, “Angel,” is everything a pop single should be: quick, catchy and filled with attractive textures. “Denial” is the futuristic track, with drones and dense instrumentation taking the McCartney franchise into the 21st century. The Neil Young cover “Old Man” is a competent performance of one from one of Paul’s contemporaries. Imagine the restraint it took for Sir Paul to not suggest one of his own tunes. Good genetics and common sense win out.

Listen!!

I don't understand why people compare musicians kids to their parents. This is NOT Paul. Fans of the Beatles probably won't care for this album at all. Just forget who his dad is and listen to the music. It's good. Very good.

Listen without prejudice...but at least listen.

It's amazing to me that people are writing reviews and actually RATING this music and trashing it who then say THEY HAVEN'T BOUGHT OR LISTENED TO IT. Buy it and listen, or don't...and then share your opinion, or don't. But to critique something you haven't actually listened to is embarrassing.

I have listened, and I think this is a really solid debut effort. The vocals, especially on "Glisten," and his take on the Neil Young classic "Old Man" are worthy of one's attention.

I bought the album out of curiosity. It is a pleasant surprise.
Awesome guitar work. Unique vocals. Little Macca has talent.
Stay at it, kid. We like it.
