Album Review

Some would say that California is the state that spawned thrash metal, as such renowned acts as Exodus, Testament, and of course Metallica all hailed from there. But in their wake, it's not as if wave after wave of thrash metallists have sprung up from the land of Joe Montana and Barry Bonds. But by the early 21st century, a Bay Area band emerged whose members had obviously studied their well-worn copies of Bonded by Blood and Kill 'Em All backwards and forwards — Hatchet. Everything about the group sonically screams '80s thrash: the nonstop chug-a-lug guitar riffing, the shouted vocals, and even corny song titles ("Frozen Hell," "Attack Imminent," etc.). Close your eyes and pick out any of the album's nine tracks, and you're bound to come across something that would have sounded absolutely perfect being introduced by Riki Rachtman on an episode of Headbangers Ball back in 1989.

BACK TO THE FUTURE

This CD is a good piece of work by Julian Ramos. (lead guitar) I used to play with him a long time ago before he formed the band and knew that he would surely produce some genuine thrash. However, this particular cd is not his best work. Julian is the genius behined Hatchet. The drums are something altogether. They are consistant and choppy. Another thing that is impressive is the singers voice. Julian went through a tough period looking for a good singer, looking for something along the lines of Tom Araya. He got that with with his last vocalist. Having been Julians friend long ago, watched him play and played with him, I can definetly say that this album is not his best. The band its self needs to establish and tear away from the pool of thrash bands and truly distinct/differentiate themselfs from the rest of the pack. Expect great things from this band! The music reminds me of bands like vio-lence and early mettalica. The solo's in this album are particularly along the lines of kirk hammet. Although the solo's are good they don't truly match with the actual rythms being played. Even though the production of this album is good the base player could barely be heard, not to mention the second guitar player who can barely be heard as well. Over all this band is enjoyable to listen to but gets redundant after a while. If you love thrash, pick up this album. If your looking for originality, it won't be in this album. I hope that the next vocalist can really bring the tempo up and I wish them luck.

how much they rock!

Al of you rock lovers go out and buy this album.

Amazing

Biography

Genre: Rock

Years Active:

A thrash metal outfit from the Bay Area, and it's not 1985? Not a wholesale surprise, really. And given the reexamination of the style as the first decade of the 21st century came to a close, it's really no surprise that bands such as Hatchet had a fair amount of impact on the reborn scene. Formed in the midst of the area's legendary punk and ska geography, Hatchet first made a name for themselves with some well-received shows in 2006 and 2007. An appearance on the Thrash Metal Warriors compilation...
