iTunes Review

On Awake, Skillet follows up the success of 2006’s Comatose with a similar blast of melodramatic pop/rock from a Christian perspective. Singer/bassist John Cooper leads his comrades through a set of ballad-heavy tracks filled with spiritual conflict and romantic anguish. Cooper’s throat-searing vocals drive home the desperation within “Forgiven,” “Monster,” and “Hero” (the latter featuring some equally urgent singing by drummer Jen Ledge). On the earthly plane, love’s rough patches are exposed in the stinging “One Day Too Late,” the snarling “Should’ve When You Could’ve,” and the regretful “Don’t Wake Me.” Though many of the tunes here are decidedly dark, “Awake and Alive” offers a God-centered battle cry as stirring as any Skillet has recorded. The ballad “Lucy” closes on a melancholy note. Overall, this album occupies a niche somewhere between Red and Evanescence, counter-pointing expressions of faith with boy/girl angst. Though Awake rarely strays beyond the boundaries set by Comatose, it stands on its own for its muscular attack and underlying passion.

Not Quite As Good as Comatose, but still really good =)

Hero- Really good, classic skillet, this song will get you pumped and will be a lottt of fun to see in concert =) one of the best songs on the album and a great way to start it off 9/10 Monster- Slightly different from some of Skillet's past stuff, but this song really grows on you =) probably just as good as Hero if not better but very different from it too 9/10 Dont Wake Me- One of their slower songs, but its really good =) one of my favorites =) sounds like some of the Comatose songs, but thats not a bad thing =) amazing song =) 9.2/10 Awake and Alive- Another great Skillet song, one of their louder, orchestrated sounding songs, another song with a Comatose sound, really good especially with the addition of Jenn singing, great song overall =) 9.5/10 One Day Too Late- Probably my personal favorite, another slow song. Amazing, with a really good message, and its also really catchy =) this is a song you'll be singing over and over throughout your day. 10/10 It's Not Me It's You- Pretty good, but i wouldn't call it great, I think in general most people will like this song a lot, but i think the chorus is kind of.. ehh.. repetitive besides that i think its a good song =) 7.8/10 Should've When You Could've- Catchy, kinda a pop sound to it, not amazing, but its a kind of upbeat softer song, I like it. 8/10 Believe- One of my favorite Skillet songs =) Amazing! Was a late addition to the album, but it's a reallly good song and one of the best on the album =) very well produced, and really good lyrics. 10/10 Forgiven- Really good, one of the more spiritual songs, some people might not like it but i think its really good, and great to see a nice, Godly message =) 8.5/10 Sometimes- Probably my least favorite song on the album. I dont know why but I just don't like it that much. Kind of dark, kind of heavy. I guess its an okay song, some people will probably like it. 6/10 Never Surrender- Good song =) really good lyrics, good message, kind of slow ish but also musically its kind of heavier. Similar to.. Open Wounds kind of. I like it, but its kind of hard to give it a rating. Hmm.... 8.6/10 Lucy- Really slow, sad song about losing someone close to you. I like it a lot, I think lots of people will relate to it. 9/10 I didnt rate the bonus tracks because i havent heard enough of them to give them a fair review yet, but overall a reallly good album =) I am a hugeee skillet fan after Comatose and i was expecting an amazing CD and I was not disappointed =) If you like Skillet, you'll definitely wanna get this CD =)

Skillet's back!

I love the direction that they went in with Comatose and it has definitely gotten even better! It's great to hear Korey singing still. She added so much to the last album and was one of the main reasons i liked it better than collide. The music is tighter and you can hear how everyone in the band has gotten better. Jen does a great job on her first recording with Skillet. Lori did a great job taking her under her wing and helping her to become yet another amazing Skillet drummer. I have no complaints whatsoever. I know this band's music has changed lives and can't wait to see what this one does! As a side-note... i don't write reviews usually about other reviewers, but i have noticed recently that a reviewer named Soldier of Christ has been very vocal on several Christian rock albums, namely Skillet, Red, Hawk Nelson, Dc Talk etc. He has made some very negative comments against these bands and their musical style. Soldier of Christ, I'm not here to bash you, just hear me out. I am a music major and have been a Christian since I was 6 years old. I love Jesus and do my best to follow him in everything I do. But I strongly disagree with your statements about these bands and the Christian rock industry. You have made the claim that rock music is evil, and by using that genre, we are "conforming to the pattern of this world." My first problem with your argument is that throughout history, even in biblical times, religious music was always similar to other music at the time. Whether it be the Hebrew cultural music of David's time or the music of Bach, religious or Christian music has always followed the same style as secular music. So what makes rock different? Why is any other genre in any time period acceptable for both secular and Christian music except for rock? Because David Bowie says so? There is only one thing that defines a song as Christian or secular, and that is the lyrics. If there was a certain genre of music we were to worship God with, it would have been the same genre as David of the Bible, and Psalms would have the music with them as opposed to the words, so we would be able to worship in that same way. But no, the music was not included, just what was truly important. The words. Thats what glorify Him. It doesn't matter if they are being sung at a church through hymns with a huge organ and full orchestra, in a small coffee shop with a guy and his guitar, or at some hardcore screamo concert. I've known people that have been saved in all three situations. When people are being led to Christ, you cannot say they are being led astray. I'm going to stop here. Whether you agree or not, Skillet, Hawk Nelson, Dc Talk and all those other bands are spreading the gospel. Read Philippians 1. Paul rejoices in the fact that even though he disagrees with others motives or things like that, the gospel was being proclaimed and that was most important. So please, do not continue the harsh reviews towards your fellow Christians, cause all you are causing is disunity, which is also preached heavily against in the New Testament. Instead rejoice in the fact that these bands are spreading the word, and many are coming to faith in Christ which is the most important thing of all.

AWAKE IS AWESOME!!!!

I've been a fan of Skillet years before Comatose came out and i've got to say this album delivers. It has the same theme as Comatose but alot more intense and powerful. The highlights here are...heck THE WHOLE CD!!!! -panhead
