Album Review
As a group name for singer/songwriter John Vesely (who plays and sings just about everything here), Secondhand Serenade is oddly appropriate, since Awake sounds on just about every level like a studious approximation of Dashboard Confessional. Awake isn't necessarily a bad album, but the lack of original inspiration on songs like "Vulnerable" and "Maybe" is pretty startling. (Obviously, even the song titles are second-hand.) Even the first-time listener should be able to pinpoint exactly at which second Vesely's double-tracked high harmony voice is going to come in, for example, or when the tune will modulate upward for an extra soupçon of yearning and strain. That said, while Vesely isn't the least bit unique, he does his chosen style well enough, and there's no reason why fans of the sensitive-guy-with-acoustic end of emo wouldn't at least be curious about Awake.

This album is beautiful..amazing harmonies and acoustics =) Half Alive 10/10: One of the best Broken 9/10: cute song that a lot of people can relate to Vulnerable 9/10: amazing lyrics...very popular...consider the music video =) Your Call 8/10: nice little love song..a little boring maybe Maybe 6/10: for some reason the harmonies are a little annoying Its not over 7/10: its good =) nothing too special I hate this song: 9/10 Veryy good..love it..beautiful lyrics Awake 9/10: another really good song! Take Me With You 7/10: a little more up-tempo Let It Roll 6/10: hm for some reason, the lyrics dont really fit with the tune.. This is the first i tunes Album I've purchased and that says a lot.
Music is pratically my life, and I had yet to purchase an entire album on iTunes until I heard these guys. I've always just picked and choosed songs that I've liked but this entire album is great. Really heartfelt lyrics. My personal favorite is "Awake". Anyone who enjoys music for what it should be should purchase this album it really is that good. I wonder why these guys aren't on VH1.

its been so long since we have been graced with well played, meaningful, acoustic music. i love this album. and to be honest i have been waiting on it to come to itunes for some time now. i heard this guy on myspace a while ago and i have been checking every now and then for him. i hope his career goes far. and i wish him the best.
