Album Review

The title of CKY's compilation B-Sides & Rarities clues people in to what the album contains. But for a band that has followed its own muse from the beginning, the stray tracks here are, if anything, only a little more eccentric than some of their regular work. In fact, much of their regular work is repeated here, albeit in alternate form, including a live-on-the-radio version of "Rio Bravo," as well as a remix of the same song; the "original version" of "Halfway House" (which drummer Jess Margera accurately calls "the heavy recording" of the song); and acoustic takes of "Don't Hold Your Breath" and "To All of You." The newest rarity seems to be the leadoff track, "Afterworld," used over the end credits on the soundtrack of the 2010 film Jackass 3D. (Margera's brother Bam is a member of the Jackass crew.) The oldest may be "Shippensburg," recorded in 1997 for a skateboarding video. And the oddest must be "Santa's Coming," a tormented revision of "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" that probably shouldn't be played within earshot of a child.

Customer Reviews

CKY in general? A++... this album by CKY? B-

there are some great songs here, don't get me wrong, and if you don't already have them, I recommend this album... but as someone who already has like 10 of these songs, I have to say I would've rather had maybe just a live hits album or an album full of studio-done acoustic versions of certain songs. But hey, quite frankly, I'll take whatever this band puts out there because this band is like a beautiful unmapped tropical island in the sea of t**ds that is todays music scene. I'm quite proud of that analogy now that I've had a chance to read it back to myself, so, with that, I end this review. cKy rules.

Brilliant

This album is amazing because, yes, some of these songs were previously released but they were never mastered. They remastered some of the best songs from Vol. 2 and they sound amazing now. This is a must for any CKY fan or any rock fan in general. Dont listen to the people that say they already have these songs because they do not. These are the mastered versions of some great songs. Along with some songs that were previously unreleased. CKY have outdone themselves again.

Already had these songs eons ago...just not mixed right

CIG, Deron, Jess and Matty...thanks for taking pictures with me 3/28/2011 in Richmond VA at the Canal Club. You guys are really just down to earth. Now I can proudly say ive been to 24 CKY shows!
