One of the finest Bach recordings

I'm not one to give anything 5 stars very freely, but this is one album that truly stands out. Most familiar with Bach recordings know about this or have it in their collection. It was very popular back in its day, I think Glenn Gould might have made this album less popular by recording them again before he died in the early eighties because often people by that recording instead of this one. This recording, however, is the one to get, a masterpiece by a 21 year old. When the senior NY Times reviewer heard Glenn Gould for the first time he wrote "hats off everyone, a genius", I need not say more.

Transcendent!

You ABSOLUTELY need two things: 1. This recording (the later recording is good, but this is supernatural) 2. A REALLY (and I mean REALLY) great set of STUDIO QUALITY headphones. taken together this is a little trip to heaven. Most everyone knows Gould went into his own little world and at his best couldn't stop himself from hum-singing along. This is an artist surrendering completely to an amazing piece of music. He is not a man playing this piece, he becomes the piece. It's glorious.

Unbelievable

I heard this playing on wosu. I was amazed at the speed. I've never heard bach so fast! Excellent!

A former child prodigy, his piano artistry was unparalleled, yet he often received less recognition as a virtuoso than as a troubled eccentric; a disconnected recluse notorious for such odd habits as wearing a wool topcoat in the dog days of summer, Gould was a...
