unbelievable
truly one of the very greatest organists alive. totally clean steady playing. all Bach, no organist. a great performer who knows how to get out of the way and let the composer shine through. it doesn't get better than this.
Pretty standard, clean performance
The "Great" Fantasia and Fugue in G minor, as well as the "St. Anne" Prelude and Fugue in E-flat major are the gems of this album. The Fugue in A minor (best known today from the baptism sequence of The Godfather) is also well done. Herrick does a great job, but my only complaint is that his performance is almost too clean and conservative. If you are looking for performances with "ornamentation" (i.e. lots of trills and improvisatory passages, as is typical of authentic baroque peformance), I would reccomend Ton Koopman's work. But overall, this is a very nice collection.
